A third victory in a row for the Gypsies. St Matthews elected to bat first, opened slowly with 2 blokes not keen for the quick single. First chance was a dolly dropped at slip by Tappy - hit him in the chest (received date votes for the noise it made.)
Varinder took out all 3 stumps to clean bowl the first wicket. The GOAT took over from V and the second opener tried the heave-ho but just knocked up a simple catch to the keeper. 2/24 became 3/44 when Saviour got one to swing away for a simple outside edge to Kitty. Guy wearing a Stokes shirt then edged one from Tony - caught behind 4/73. But then Big Ted arrived and had a good partnership to take them up to 141.
It didn't feel like enough runs and the Gypsy openers proved that correct with a fantastic opening partnership of 116 before Simon missed a Pie and was bowled for a well-made 70. Skipper changed around the order and Roshan hit a first-ball 4 before being clean bowled. Darcy Cohen came in to assist Cilla who was turning back the clock, batting beautifully. He passed 50 with just a few to get and was fined for failing to acknowledge the half-century. A thumping 8 wicket win to stamp themselves as October Flag favourites. No doubt all down hill from here. |
