Match Report |
Under sunny skies at a Bedlam Bay, barley recognisable, since the grass had been cut, the Gypsies, after waiting whilst the junior match unhurriedly ambled to a finish, if not a conclusion, won the toss and invited Royals to bat.
This proved to be a master strategic move by our canny skipper, as, at the first break, Royals had not passed 40 runs for the loss of several wickets.
Royals continued to struggle after the interval, adding only 120 runs, leaving the Gypsies with a simple 168 (< 5 rpo) for victory. The outstanding bowling performance undoubtedly being your correspondent, who, according to the Association score sheet, managed to take a wicket without bowling a ball.
The Gypsies batting began in rollicking style, with Fossy and Huge piling on a season-record opening partnership, to have Royals on the ropes. V came in to administer the coup de grace, belting a quick fire 27, leaving it to Will (17) and "the youngster" Jeffrey Badross, (43*, ably assisted in a season record unfinished 9th wicket partnership of 27 by your correspondent) to finish off the Royals. Perfectly positioned at 8/108 after 35 overs and not even requiring the "big cat" to bat, the Gypsies celebrated in style after the match, polishing off a packet of Royals biscuits, like Winx, having cemented a place in history.
