Match Report
Gypsies displayed utter lack of class (at least with their batting) against the Concord RSL to pose a modest target of 129. Maybe it was the heat of the day that got the Gypsies batsmen.

For a change captain won the toss and decided to bat. Paul and Shane opened the batting for Gypsies, Paul was looking shaky from the very start and he soon succumbed to a LBW(given by none other than T Masters). Shane on the other end as always was looking like he’s there to stay. V Singh came in next and it didn’t took him long to get his eye in, soon he was hitting the opening bowlers all around the park and this time the shots were going where he meant to hit em. But his stay at the crease was brief, as he got unlucky with one of the balls hitting him on the full and then managing to clip one of the wickets to knock the bails off. Next in was R Singh who looked semi dangerous with his usual style but he was missing more balls than he was hitting and soon enough he was sent packing home. (LBW for unlucky 13, again given by infamous T Masters). Now pressure was on Gypsies and it was time for captain to rise to the occasion. But captain was troubled by the change of pace of the one of bowlers and was caught behind for a paltry (score was in single digit, TBC) . Shane was struggling to find a stable partner on the other end as he was trying to hold the fort for Gypsies. Gypsies batsmen kept crumbling one after the other like a deck of cards, with Shane desperately trying to save the day. Shane’s great innings came to an end in the avoidance territory when he was caught trying to hit the ball over long on. Finally Gypsies were all out for 128.

The only way Gypsies were going to have any chance at defending this total was by getting some early wickets and not giving many runs. The opening bowlers managed to get those early breaks for their team getting the dangerous looking Sirr and Walsh out. With the days closure nearing, R Singh claimed his second wicket when he bowled the left handed batsmen. After end of day 1 of the match Concord RSL are 3/36. There is still a huge task ahead for Gypsies on day 2. Gypsies will need to pull every trick possible to win this one. We need the Captain to come up with some motivational words to keep the spirits up till next Saturday.

The day started with the hope that Gypsies bowlers will again strike early, but the openers(V Singh & R Singh) failed to impress and they didn’t do much with their bowling and were not able to trouble the batsmen at all. Concord RSL were cruising towards an easy victory with steadily scoring runs and not giving Gypsies many opportunities to pounce on. Gypsies tried every possible bowling combination to shake the batsmen but failed. P Cheal who failed to impress with his batting had the opportunity to redeem himself when he was given the chance to ball, but it turned out to be a long and expensive over for Gypsies. Though Paul argues there was a missed catch in the over that could have changed the game or at least turned his over around. T Master’s managed to create few chances, but they were not capitalized by Gypsies and in some cases not entertained by the umpires. The game could have been played with more spirit by the opposition as there were some ridiculous decisions given by the opposition umpires, some of whom seemed more interested in answering their phones rather than paying attention to the job at hand. I hope a lesson was learned from this match and we will not see any more LBWs, at least not against this side. On the whole a pretty mediocre effort on Gypsies behalf, some say the calls for mediocrity by B2 have been heard and good money raised for the kitty. General consensus during the pub proceedings was to heavily fine B2 for asking Gypsies to lower their playing standard, and he is lucky to escape with just a $2 fine.

Embarrassing defeat for Gypsies.

Cricket is a funny game, you win some you lose some. So all is not lost my fellow Gypsies. Looking at the ladder this morning I can assure everyone that our position is the semi’s is pretty much guaranteed. But let’s not get complacent. Let’s prepare ourselves mentally for our next game where we face the next best side of the group “The Pirates”. Do your yoga, go for your spa session, have your binge sessions or dream about enjoying the victory drinks from the lady’s head or whatever tickles your fancy to prepare yourself for the game. But more importantly make yourselves available for the game.
