Gypsies vs Balmain Tigers Gold Round 9
Gypsies wanted to avoid the post Christmas slump that costed them a chance at the premiership last season, and they did it with a convincing win against the Tigers. The Gypsies captain certainly didn’t lose his form as he lost the toss again and the Tigers elected to bat first, which seemed very appropriate given the humid conditions. V seemed slightly out of touch or hung-over, bowling the very first ball a few feet outside the leg stump, keeper only had to dive few meters to his left to stop it from heading towards the boundary which he(Kitty) failed to do, and it was harshly judged as the worst ball of the day. R Singh on the other hand started off brilliantly with a maiden over. Gypsies struck soon enticing the opener to hit the ball only to be caught by Daryl at gully. V was still a bit wayward with his spell but managed to get the other opener out in his 3rd over. Tigers were struggling, losing 2 early wickets and with Gypsies not giving them any easy chance at scoring runs. But Tigers seemed to be getting control of their innings and setting up a good partnership between their 3rd and 4th man. As the drinks were about to be called Hugh ended the only successful partnership of the Tigers innings. What followed after drinks could only be described as “Wrath of Hugh” as he slashed through the Tigers batting line up. Hugh was so fired up with his 5 wicket hall that he wanted more Tiger blood and carried on with his 8th over, when Tigers realised that it was time to make the call that the Tiger slayer has completed his allocated 7 over spell. Captain realised his mistake which I believe costed him a $2 fine for innumeracy , and brought Cila on to complete the over. Hugh was aptly supported by Shane on the other end, who bowled an excellent spell of 6overs with figures of 3/22. Tigers were dismissed for a total of 92, which seemed like a gettable score, given the Gypsies expansive batting line up. But lest not forget we are a club in crisis.
“Catches win matches” Tigers will certainly be writing this phrase on the board a hundred times, as in the short duration they were on the field they must have dropped at least 8 catches. Paul and Harry opened the batting for Gypsies and gave Gypsies the start they needed to chase their target score of 93. Harry was looking good on crease hitting the ball all around the park when he threw his wicket away at 27, playing the worst shot of the day. V Singh was sent in next, with instructions to take his time on the crease and bring it home. However he played in true park style cricket throwing his bat at everything possible. But V was like a cat with nine lives as opposition kept dropping his catches one after the other. Paul was not so lucky with one of his shots and was caught out for 38. V carried on with his nonsense hitting to finish the game in the 14th over.
Gypsies were denied celebrations they deserved and a chance to sing their victory song in the true Gypsies style by the “whatever” bowling club. Let’s put that club in our blacklist.
Gypsies still remain on the top of the ladder. How bout em.
