Match Report |
Day 2 started with drama of Roman making a late entry to ground(Master of fines: We forgot to fine him for this). Not wanting to be in the avoidance territory, he decided to go big or go bust and big he went with possibly the longest six of the innings. Roman raised his bat for his first 50 of the season, but it took scorers a while to realize it on the score books and thus inform the crowd of the event. He carried on toying with the bowlers as he raced towards his 100. Daryl on the end other was looking good, when he was caught and sent back to the box. H Ross was sent in to support Singh but had to sacrifice his wicket for a set batsman when he was run out for 4 on a poor call by Hugh. Harry looked comfortable at the wickets while Roman carried on with his madness and captains decided to declare the innings when Roman after lingering in the avoidance territory for a while, reached his 100 with a six.
Gypsies were pumped and set to claim an outright win. Anti’s on the other hand were looking cautious not to repeat 1st innings collapse, as they concentrated on the game rather than the BBQ. Anti’s had a shaky but lucky start when their opener was dropped in the 2nd over by kitty at slips. But the wait for the 1st wicket was not going to be a long one as Harry took a comfortable catch at the second slip. The next wicket came soon after and Anti’s were 2/39. Then there was a dramatic run out by R Singh, when the batsman smashed a straight drive of R Singh’s bowl and he managed to get enough hand on the bowl to hit the wickets on the bowlers end and catch the non striker outside his crease. At this stage captain of Anti’s was setting himself for big innings, and he had his lucky escape when Paul decided to do donuts around a high hit and missed the ball completely. But to avoid a $5 fine for second drop Paul wisely decided not to do the donuts on the field again and took a similar catch to send the captain back to his waiting team. The Anti’s were at 5/64 before the end of 1st session and again were looking in trouble.
Things were slowing down after the drinks break, as the opposition decided to deny Gypsies the outright win. Captains were trying every possible bowling combination to shake the batsmen but to no avail. Another bowling change brought the 1st break after the drinks when Hugh claimed his 1st wicket of the season. But after trying 8 bowlers, Gypsies couldn’t get the result they hoped for and the match ended due to compulsory closure with Anti’s at 6/128 |
