Match Report |
The selectors heard the calls to bring back some experience in the team and it certainly paid off. Gypsies lost the toss and were put in to bat in their 2 day match against the Tigers @Campbell Park2, and not surprisingly had a usual Gypsy start with losing 2 early wickets. Ben and Shane opened the innings. Shane¡¦s innings were wrapped early when he was bowled at 9. Then came in the explosive V who tries to imitate Virender Sehwag with his batting style, but failed to fire up and was out for quick 12. Ben was showing skill at the other end, but was struggling to find a stable partnership. The Captain who was in good form but in a hurry to get to his century had his journey cut really short when he was caught on a slower bowl. At this stage Gypsies were struggling and looking at low scoring game (again) and possibly a collapse. R Singh was then sent in to bring some order back, and he sure was letting his frustration out from the last game (fined 20$ for Late late without call and didn¡¦t bat) by smashing Tigers all over the park (finished at 33,3 sixes, 2 consecutive). With Paul getting out cheaply at 6, the Fenton-Smiths (Nick and Kitty) put up a good fight and showed rookies how it¡¦s done. Kitty was in the field with one thing on his mind ¡§to outshine Sachin Tendulkar¡¦s achievement¡¨ and that he did by passing a major milestone of 2000 runs for Gypsies. Congratulations!!!!!!. With Manoj and Cil leaving the crease early, Sourabh was sent in with 1 objective(given by his mentor : V) hit it or get out, he stuck to it and went after the Tigers bowlers. The last wicket partnership was the most exciting part of the whole day with Sourabh and Kitty giving it to the Tiger bowlers and the tension was showing with Tigers going from a chatter box to a team we played in 2008 (Silent Warriors).
The Gypsies ended with a respectable score of 206 All out.
Gypsies responded well by breaking through Tigers defence early and claiming their 1st wicket in the 1st over, which ended in a tragedy when V in the excitement of getting his 1st wicket of the season almost took NFS¡¦s eye out during the celebrations. R Singh was looking a bit shaky with his bowling and was getting smashed all over the park. But smashing didn¡¦t last long when Tigers lost their 2nd wicket and boy what a wicket it was. The batsmen must have hit the ball a mile high, but Gypsies had their safest hands in position to take the catch. AB having placed himself early in the position to take the catch had enough time to finish a couple of schooners before the ball will get to him, but he decided to wait till the end of the day and kept his eyes on the ball and claimed the prize. Tigers weren¡¦t happy and they showed it with a controversial decision over a caught behind in the last over.
DAY 2
Gypsies were at their best and seemed in a hurry to get to the pub as they ripped through Tigers batting line up. Though Tigers each player was getting at an average of 2 chances at the crease, but that was not enough to keep them from getting anywhere near the Gypsies total. B1 was back and proved that he has still got it. I am not sure what was more interesting ¡§the dismal fall of Tigers¡¨ or ¡§the Race to get to five wickets between B1 and myself, which was won by me ƒº¡¨. ¡§Cheatigers¡¨ as I would call them tried everything: from giving ridiculous wide balls, to not giving some plum LBWs, to denying caught behinds and run outs, to throw Gypsies bowlers and Gypsies off, but in vain. The bowlers built immense pressure on start of day 2 and were backed by great keeping and fielding, and had the Cheatigers by their balls. Tigers futile resistance was over without a bowling change, and they ended up All out for 81
Seeing a chance for an outright win and to gain some extra point Gypsies captain decided to put Tigers back in the crease. But B1 getting a jelly arm after the 1st round of balling, was injured and couldn¡¦t continue. The second time round Gypsies couldn¡¦t get through Tigers batting quickly enough and Captain decided to call it off. Tigers ended up on 4/72.
