Match Report |
Captain (Acting) Kitty Vanstead's decision to open the bowling with B1 was immediately vindicated when he took 2 wickets in 3 balls to have them 2/0, including fine catches to Batho at slip & Brett keeping down the leg side. Clovelly never really recovered from there as Nathan bowled 10 gutsy overs straight up the hill at the other end, taking 3 wickets (including 2 from genuine pies). B1 returned at the end to take a further 2 wickets & finish with 4. His last over went: 66W.W In between Batho & Sam bowled well while B2 returned from the USA revitalised to bowl 1 over for 4 runs when handed the pill with Clovelly's only decent bat pasting the attack for 71. Extras was 2nd top score with 20, which tells you alot about their batting. It was one of the best Gypsy performances in the field for the season with only one catch going down and numerous fine efforts including Manny at square leg and Tap pouncing on a ball and taking middle with a direct hit that deserved a look from the 3rd Umpire.
Chasing 139 required cool heads, and Batho once again proved his ability to bat through with a rock-like performance at No. 1 for 70-odd. Ably supported through some early good Clovelly bowling by Adrian and then later with 20's from B1 & Brett, the only hiccups were Hishan's golden at no. 3 and then a fine captain's (acting) knock from Kitty who managed another golden from a crap spinner when scores were already level.
The regulation controversy was provided by Tap who pulled a chest-high full toss to the man at square leg and waited for a no-ball call that never came. Eventually the no-ball call did come, but too late to prevent Clovelly (both players and well-endowed female spectators) from going berko as one of their bats had fallen victim in a similar fashion. Tap stood his ground, played a further dot-ball and then decided to walk. He was duly fined for desertion, but his rare act of generosity certainly took the wind out of the inane chatter from the Clovelly fools and tfrom there they were quietly and professionally put to the sword by a composed Gypsy batting order.
Due to Coogee Randwick's BYE and Men of the Bat losing, we are once again TOP OF THE TABLE!
