Match Report
Week 1:

Saturday's game was interesting from several perspectives.

The first was to find the ground, which had been cunningly hidden by Canada Bay Council the day before by burying the ground under six feet of sand.

Having established the location of the pitch, the Gypsies adopted a novel strategy to pile the pressure on Balmain. By cunningly losing wickets through the day (V 44, Cheal one lbw decision), the Gypsies finished on 104, with 6 overs left in the gloom. The pressure to survive was enormous. However, survive they did, finishing 0/~30 at stumps. Unfortunately we didn't have a white ball to blend in with the sand, but Chopper clearly got into the hairstyle, if not the head, of one of the Balmain openers, who took what seemed like hours adjusting his long blond locks.

Having cunningly and successfully lulled Balmain into a sense of security, the Gypsies are ready to turn the screws next Saturday (as only the Gypsies can), with rookie, Saaran, expected to set the beach on fire.

Of note, Nathan walked when caught behind, Huge didn't, when bowled.

Skipper B1 has reminded your correspondent that the pressure cooker that is Gypsy cricket told once again, when Nathan and Girish combined for one of the most farcical run outs in Gypsy history. Nathan lobbed the ball in from fine leg (or, given Nathan's arm, was that leg slip), when the Balmain opener, easily able to make his ground, tripped on a sand dune and fell, short of his ground. Girish, with MS Dhoni aplomb, removed the bails.

So Balmain are 1/~30. Oh the pressure!!

Week 2:

As predicted last week, Balmain were no match for Gypsy pressure. In an innings of some symmetry - first and last wickets runouts of batsmen falling mid pitch, V and chopper both 4 for, the Gypsies routed a hapless Balmain (breaking one of their stumps in the process) for 64, well short of the (in the context) massive 104 of the Gypsies. The other prediction - that debutant Saaran would be our match winner was also borne out. Not only did he bring the right karma (carried by a bus which thundered into Balmain), but Balmain were so overawed by his presence, they went out of their way not to hit the ball near him. Clearly a strong performance for Rookie of the year.

For the second consecutive game, an opposition player has gone to the casualty ward by his own hand. We learnt on Sat that the Balmain opener who last week tripped trying to make his crease, broke his arm in the effort.

The game, however, did have a sour note - as we sang the song, with the traditional dress code, one of our number was awol, talking to Briars supporters. Shame!!
