Match Report
A band of 10, mainly enfeebled, Gypsies to take on the best the Assoc could throw at us.

Adrian and Chopper were having their first game for 18 months and Cilla got to the ground early to sleep on a park bench (Ryde park benches clearly being a cut above the Darlinghurst variety). Chopper phoned through saying he'd be late as he had to exercise his democratic franchise and take his daughter to tennis coaching and Adrian (Harry) was selected on the basis that he'd get to the ground as soon as possible after work. As one of our number had his leave pass cancelled, and another couldn't find the ground, we were down to

9 players, with 7 present, at the toss.

Fortunately, Batho won the toss and we did the only thing possible, batted.

Batho and Chealy opened, with Batho on strike against a young tearaway, who was promptly dispatched by our noble leader for a succession of 4s and 6s. Chealy put on 3, but was caught in the second over, leaving us 1/15, effectively 3/15.

Hollywood came in at number 3 and made Bill Lawry's scoring rate appear as fast as Usain Bolt, but fortunately, Batho got 40 and Hamish and Holly got the score to 115, before Holly was run out for

21 in the 25th over. Probably the best thing that could have happened, as Hamish went on to score 42, Harry made 19, Chopper, clearly high on the anticipation of an electoral victory, plundered

35 (including a couple of 6s across the road into the driveway of an irate muppett who was cleaning his car) before getting out checking the cloud cover whilst attempting another 6. Ryan belted a quickfire 11, Nathan 10* and Cil made Holly's scoring rate respectable with a dashing 0*. Courtesy of 21 extras, we finished at 7/202 after 35 overs.

With all the "regular" keepers awol, Harry took the gloves and we took the field with 9 players. The Pirates made 8/198 in the 35 overs, helped by some dubious calls of wide. Chopper had 2/32, Nathan 1/29, Hamish 2/35, Batho 0/29, Tony 1/25 and Cil 0/25. Highlights in the field were the 7 boundary riders in the last

5 overs, a runout at a crucial time by Harry who chased byes to longstop and threw down the wicket during their second run, a catch by Chealy, in which he surrounded the ball before catching it lying down, and a run out by said Chealy, where he took the time to field the ball, run in and take off the bails to dismiss their top scorer.

All in all a great victory for an undermanned Gypsy outfit.

You should read this to your childrens' childrens' children, reciting the honour roll reverently.
